Mark your calendars for the NIH Research Festival, September 12-14. During the Festival, we will be highlighting innovative technologies we make available from the NIH Library to support research at NIH. Join us in the Library for some (educational) fun on Wednesday and Thursday, September 12 and 13, from 12 to 4 p.m.

On April 19, NHGRI is focusing on microbes and microbiomes as the theme for the day. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to start reading the NIH Big Read book I Contain Multitudes by Ed Yong, which examines the world of the microbes that exist within and around us.

Large 3D modeling files can be challenging to work with and often take a long time to open and modify. In this class, attendees will learn about the tools, settings, and practices that can be used to create and navigate through large assembly models more easily.

On September 13 and 14, the NIH Library will be participating in the Festival by highlighting Virtual Reality (VR) and 3D Printing as two of the innovative technologies we make available to support research at NIH.

Have you thought about integrating Virtual Reality (VR) into your research, but don’t know where to start? Starting May 12, the NIH Library is offering a new drop-in VR Consultation Service, available by appointment every Friday, 12 – 3 p.m. This service is free for all NIH and HHS staff.

Come to the NIH Library to learn more about the possibilities VR offers for research, collaboration, and education. The NIH Library is offering VR demos on the first Tuesday of each month, 12:30–2:00 p.m. in the NIH Library Media Room.

The first VR demo session will be held March 7 and features an introduction to the Library’s new HTC Vive system, followed by a demo of Chimera, a program for interactive visualization and analysis of molecular structures and related data.
