As a National Institutes of Health (NIH) translator, Douglas has spent the last 10 years applying his knowledge of foreign languages to help the NIH community communicate effectively internally and internationally. His linguistic skills serve the essential goals of the NIH community whether they concern translations for record-keeping and security, treating foreign patients at NIH, leading-edge research in medical science or translations of historical scientific literature.
Douglas has a Master of Development Economics from Northeastern University and attended Russian language training at Middlebury College, Indiana University, Leningrad State University, the Pushkin Institute at Moscow State University, Centre d’Etudes Russes, a Boston University Teachers of Russian program and Harvard College. He taught Russian on the faculty of Bridgewater State College and at the Russian International Village of Concordia College. Douglas translated and interpreted for the Russian Academy of Sciences (formerly, USSR Academy of Sciences), the Bolshoi Ballet Company, Russian business delegations, the governor of Washington State, a Seattle-based congressman and the chief of police of Seattle. Prior to joining NIH as a translator, he provided medical interpretation services for doctors, nurses, staff, patients and patients’ families at NIH’s Clinical Center.
Douglas is an active member in good standing of the American Translators Association and attends annual translator conferences to continually keep abreast of changes in the field, including information technologies that manage the many translation challenges of this global profession.
What Can I Do For You
Douglas tackles any translation job with an earnest interest in producing translated texts that are not only faithful to the original text, but also are clearly written in the target language that is usually English. He translates from Russian to English and English to Russian. His other linguistic competencies include German, Spanish and French. He also renders Latin diploma translations in English.
