Lisa Federer joined the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Library in 2013. She specializes in research data management and works with intramural researchers across NIH. Prior to joining NIH, Lisa was a research informationist at the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library, and previously spent eight years teaching composition and literature at the University of North Texas.
Lisa is an active member of the Medical Library Association (MLA) and serves on the MLA Futures Task Force, which advises on strategic planning to keep the organization vital and relevant over the next ten years. She has been an invited speaker at several national meetings on the emerging role of the research data informationist and how librarians can apply their skills and expertise to help researchers effectively manage their data. In 2012, she received a Medical Library Association's New Voices Award for her presentation "Pitching Data Services to Translational Researchers: A Pilot Project."

What Can I Do For You
As a Research Data Informationist at the NIH Library, Lisa provides support to intramural researchers in the management, organization, and re-use of biomedical research data. She advises on organization and description of data, consults on the writing of data management plans, assists in the development of tools for facilitating access to research data, and provides instruction on best practices in data management. She also participates in the NIH Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) initiative.
