Python is a scripting language which allows users to quickly code ideas for execution on the computer. It is useful for learning computer programming and is used for projects ranging from simple reformatting of files to complex data analyses. It has become a mainstay in bioinformatics, especially in workflows for analyzing sequencing data.
This hands-on class is for students new to computer programming. It is meant to give students a taste of programming and its uses. It covers the basics such as numbers, strings, operations, and names. Then it moves on to collections and control statements. Finally, an example is given for visualizing data.
