Session Description

Data visualization is becoming an increasingly common method of presenting large and complex data sets, but the principals of visual communication are not widely understood or practiced. Like other forms of communication, visualization has its own grammar and syntax that, if used, can increase the aesthetics and effectiveness of any visualization. This session will provide an overview of how data visualizations are constructed, how people tend to understand visual cues like shape and color, and how to use those cues to create visualizations that are both attractive and informative.
